Description

Error Message

Warning

A distributed architecture environment has been detected!

Please stop all eDiscovery Platform services using the Clearwell Utility on all secondary nodes before upgrading the primary node.

Any secondary node that has eDiscovery Platform services running while upgrading the primary node will not be available for upgrade, which might make the Distributed Architecture environment unreliable.

Warning

eDiscovery Platform services are running on the following secondary nodes.

Please stop all services of these nodes before proceeding with the upgrade.

clearwell.Testlabs.com   <-- The computername or fully qualified domain name (fqdn) shown at bottom of this warning is important to note in order to perform the solution.  Using clearwell.Testlabs.com as example.

[java] 2023-01-18 14:55:26,356 WARN [STDERR] (main:[]) Exception in thread "main" java.lang.RuntimeException: Failed to get the boot information, check database or network connection.

Cause

The hostname was manually changed in mysql database.

Resolution

Note: Forcing a stop of the installation will leave the eDP Appliance in an unusable state which will then require one of these three (3) options:

1. Reverting back to snapshot if using virtual machines and a snapshot was performed prior to the upgrade.
2. Restoring from a system backup that was taken prior to the upgrade.
3. Reinstalling prior eDP version and then restoring eDP with prior node backup.  Test that eDP Appliance is working.  Then start the upgrade again and follow the below steps for resolution once at the second warning dialog window shown above.

The current state of the eDP server should be that the upgrade has been started and the second dialog warning window is shown on screen.  The solution can be performed at this point to allow the installation to complete.  The solution requires a mysql database/table modification that Arctera Support can assist with.  Create an Arctera Support case and reference this technote (Article: 100054904) in the new case.

Issue/Introduction

During the upgrade of a stand alone eDP appliance, there are two dialog warning windows that are symptoms of the problem. One says "A distributed architecture environment has been detected", and the second says "eDiscovery Platform services are running on the following secondary nodes". The OK button of the second warning message can be pressed and then a moment later the same dialog will show again because stuck in loop. Affected Versions: 9.xx and above
