Description

This article describes how to migrate Enterprise Vault Microsoft Teams data using the Enterprise Vault Server Settings Migration wizard and contains the following sections:

Supported source and target Enterprise Vault versions

The Server Setting Migration wizard enables you to migrate Enterprise Vault Microsoft Teams data from the following source Enterprise Vault server (source EV server) versions to the target Enterprise Vault server (target EV server) versions:

Source EV server version Target EV server version
14.2 14.2, 14.3
14.3 14.3
14.4 14.4

Note: If Microsoft Teams has been configured using the certificate Thumbprint on the source EV server, then the same certificate (along with the private key) must also be present under "Local Computer\Trusted Root" on the target EV server.

Migration steps

Perform the following steps to migrate the Enterprise Vault Microsoft Teams data using the Server Settings Migration wizard:

Step 1: Perform the Server Settings Migration wizard export on the source EV server

  1. Disable all importers from the Administration Console.
  2. Run the Server Settings Migration wizard and generate the migration package.

Step 2: Perform the Server Settings Migration wizard import on the target EV server

  1. Complete the Server Settings Migration wizard package import.
For more information, refer to the EV_Migrating_Using_Server_Settings_Wizard.pdf, which is available on the Enterprise Vault - Server Settings Migration Wizard page.
  2. Install the Merge1 server certificate on the target EV server (under "Local Computer\Trusted Root").
  3. Install the target EV server certificate on the Merge1 server (under "Local Computer\Trusted Root").
  4. Start the Enterprise Vault Admin and Enterprise Vault Directory services.
  5. In the left pane of the Administration Console, perform the following actions:
    1. For each Targets > Microsoft 365 > Connections > Properties, click Test.
    2. Ensure that the Test validation is successful.
  6. If the Importer's holding folder location is locally shared on the source EV server, perform the following steps:
    1. Copy all the Importer's holding folders to the target EV server (use the exact location as on the source EV server) from the source EV server.
    2. Share these holding folders on the target EV server and grant the Vault Service account full control of these shared folders.
    3. Create the "BrokenChatHolding" folder under each Importer's holding folder ("\holding folder\ImporterName\").
    4. Update all the importers with the new holding folder location from the Administration Console.
    5. Update the "Converted chat folder path" and "Broken chat folder path" for the Teams Archiving tasks from the Administration Console (Tasks > Teams Archiving Task > Properties > Advance) to the corresponding folders of all the importers.
  7. If the Importer's holding folder location is the shared remote location on the source EV server, on the target EV server, add the Vault Service account (Domain\VSA) user as an Identity user in IIS Manager in Enterprise Vault > Application pool > Merge1WebHookPool > Identity.
  8. Restart the IIS.
  9. Start all other Enterprise Vault services.
  10. Enable all the importers.

Migrating the Microsoft Teams data from Enterprise Vault 14.2 or 14.3 to 14.4

Note that:

  • Enterprise Vault 14.2 and 14.3 are compatible only with Merge1 6.x.
  • Enterprise Vault 14.4 is compatible only with Merge1 7.x.

As a result, a direct migration from Enterprise Vault 14.2 or 14.3 to 14.4 is not supported.

  1. Before starting the Server Settings Migration wizard in export mode, delete all the importers on the source EV server (with Merge1 6.x version) from the Administration console.
  2. On the target EV server, complete the Server Settings Migration wizard package import and reconfigure the Enterprise Vault Microsoft Teams archiving. For more information, refer to the Enterprise Vault™ Setting up Microsoft Teams Archiving guide.
