Cause

This behaviour may be seen when SMTP Archiving is configured to use an Exchange Journal Archive. The Archive Task type is SMTP and the message file type is EML, but the Archive type is Exchange Journal and thus the message type is also Exchange Journal. As a result, the code determines the need for conversion is not applicable due to the messages not meeting the criterion to be converted from EML to MSG, and does not display the option.

From the Help File:

With the EML to MSG conversion option selected, the export will convert EML messages to MSG messages and then add them to one or more PST files, depending on the number and size of the messages. After a successful export run, the contents of the PST file(s) can be natively previewed in Microsoft Outlook. EML to MSG conversion is available for IMAP, SMTP, Instant Messaging, Teams Chat and Channel messages, Fax, and Bloomberg message types.

As such, the Convert EML to PST option is only visible when at least one message with a that matches one of these message types.

 

Resolution

The supported method to list the Convert: EML to MSG (Requires significant additional processing time) option is to have at least one item in the Review Set for the Case/Department with a type that matches the list in the Help description. To do this, run a Search in the Case/Department against an Archive of a type from the list above to find at least one item and Accept that Search. The Convert: EML to MSG (Requires significant additional processing time) option should now be visible in an Export in that Case/Department.

 

Issue/Introduction

When running an Enterprise Vault (EV) Discovery Accelerator (DA) or Compliance Accelerator/Surveillance (CA) Export with EML messages (items), the option Convert: EML to MSG (Requires significant additional processing time) is not visible.
